" Christmas Dinner for Two "

When was the last time we had Christmas Dinner at Home ?
Since I was cooking for just two of us, I wanted to try something different.
So, "Duck Breasts" came to my mind.
The rest of menu will followed what I could find at the store.

The Dinner started with my version of Christmas Salad.
Which was Baby Spinach & Fuji Apple with Roasted Pine Nuts.
Dressed with Simple White Balsamic Vinaigrette.

Hors D'Oeuvres - Roasted Figs with Boursin

Duck Breast - Magret a L'Orange

Smashed Japanese Yams with Roasted Chestnuts.

Haricots Verts with Pancetta

Simple but tasty Christmas Dinner it was.
We didn't even have room for Chocolate Fudge Cake with Ice Cream.

Our home is decorated for Christmas without any traditional way this year.
A Cardboard Tree came from Tokyo more than 10 years ago.
Santa-Candles, Green Bottle-Brushes Trees are this year's addition.
We hang Vintage Red & Green Indian Wedding Sari
which we found in San Francisco long time ago.

" Couture Masks "

Jonathan has been collecting Vintage Handkerchiefs every time we go to Pennsylvania or Oversea Trips.  He had few ideas what for...
When I start talking about what I should have for christmas gifts for family & close friends, he suggested for me to use them for making face masks.  Of course he wanted to have some special ones for himself.  Which was reasonable request.
I was not sure how it will work, but I was willing to try.  Some of them were thin to use for Corvit Mask.  But if I add an extra layers to make 3 Layered Face Masks, they should work fine.  Mind you, they are all 100% Cotton Washable.
So, I stated to select some Flower Printed Vintage Handkerchiefs, and few Christmas Scenes Handkerchieves.
I hand washed all of them, hang dried, pressed, cut and sewn.
Some of handkerchieves are so small I can cut only 1 mask, and others could make 2 masks.  Even those two are slightly different from each other.  Means every masks are "One of A Kind".  This means I can call them "Couture Masks"

Jonathan & I will be wearing one of those Couture Masks for Holiday Season.

" Unseasonably warm last weekend of November "

We are still digesting Turkey dinner.
And to help it Jonathan & I decided to take a walk to the Village.
We could do it without winter coats.
It is very warm November weekend.
They are saying this is 3rd warmest November on record.
I'm so enjoying this weather !
I may do walking again to see colors on the street this afternoon.
Many trees in the city still have leaves with bright colors.

" Thanksgiving Dinner for Two "

A night before the turkey Day.

Jonathan baked a cake, I prepared a bread pudding to bake.
Since our main dish was Turkey Breast, I chose to make it instead of stuffing.
This recipe was given by the host of last years Thanksgiving Dinner Soiree.  I was helping to make it in their kitchen a day before the party and it was delicious.
Since then I wanted to make it myself.  It need to be prepared a day before, that means one less things to do in the following morning.  It was a perfect choice.
I was thinking when was the last time we spent our Thanksgiving at home ?
We were at J & J's home every year for the past 15 to 20 years.  Under the circumstance we are in this year, it was a necessary decision we all had to make.  It is strange not seeing familiar faces there, but it was nice cozy supper just two of us...

The table is set.

Before the first soup course, we toasted with...

Kabocha-Squash Bisque

Spinach Apple Salad with Toasted-Pignolis

Herb Roasted Japanese Sweet Potatoes

Mushroom Brioche Pudding

Roasted Turkey Breast with Sage

Cranberry & Orange Relish and Gravy made the table complete.

Thanksgiving Dinner finished with Orange Almond Cake.

YES, we didn't finish !
We have plenty of leftovers for this weekend !!
